Collagen cross-linking with riboflavin and UV-A light
Corneal cross-linking is used to photochemically cross-link the corneal collagen fibrils using UV light and riboflavin (vitamin B2). The advantage: This treatment can usually obviate the need for corneal transplantation.
CXL is the only known procedure to date as to successfully treat advanced stages of keratoconus and related ectatic diseases such as pellucid marginal degeneration and iatrogenic corneal ectasia.
With the CCL-365-vario, high-power diodes and special lenses are used to homogenize the light beam. As an advantage hot spots are prevented and endothelium is protected simultaneously.
The CCL-365-vario offers three levels of illumination density at 3, 9 and 18 mW/sq.cm allowing high flexibility and great ease of use as the appropriate level can always be selected in accordance with the indicated treatment.
For a guaranteed high degree of safety, the beam of the CCL-365-vario has a working distanceof 50 mm to the optic and a depth of focus of +/- 5 mm.
Corneal cross-linking (CXL), also known as collagen cross-linking, is used as an outpatient treatment to strengthen the corneal stroma.
